CBD oil is becoming increasingly popular to help with stress, anxiety, and pain relief, amongst other things. Whilst some remain sceptical, many others are enjoying its benefits. Here are some things you need to know…
What is CBD oil?
Also known as cannabidiol, it is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. This oil does not contain the illegal ‘high’ of cannabis (marijuana) because it does not contain THC, which is the part that has psychoactive properties. CBD comes in 2 forms as either isolate or full spectrum CBD products. Make sure your oil is full spectrum since it offers far better effects than the alternative isolate.
So is CBD oil legal in UK?
Short answer; yes, it is. There are strict restrictions in place with regard to the THC content though; for it to be legal in the UK, it must contain no more than 0.2 per cent THC. Many of the oils on sale at high street health shops actually have as little as 0.05% THC.
Over in the US, rules vary state by state so check up on local laws. It is available in various places, check out Left Coast extracts for example.
How do you use it?Â
There are a couple of common ways. If you are a vaper, there are plenty of CBD e-liquid UK based options that come in a variety of flavours.
But perhaps the most common method is orally by placing a few drops of CBD oil under the tongue. It is recommended to start off with a low dose then build up. The oil does have quite an overwhelming distinctive taste too so be prepared with a drink afterwards!
The other product I have seen is coconut oil with CBD oil. This can be taken directly by the spoonful or mixed with smoothies etc… I really like this idea because I am also a huge fan of coconut oil, so combining the benefits of both that with CBD sounds great!
Benefits of CBD oil
There are many potential benefits. It is considered to help with mental health; offering stress relief, relieving anxiety and assisting with feelings of depression. Of course, nothing works for everyone but it could be helpful to some. It can even be used for pets; you can find specific cbd oil for dogs for example.
It is also thought to provide pain relief in a number of contexts. For example; it may assist those with chronic back pain, arthritis, MS, and even cancer patients. In some cases it is also prescribed under NHS for epilepsy too. As already mentioned, everybody is different and it is sometimes necessary to explore the most effective treatment for the individual. It therefore may well be worth considering CBD oil as a possibility.
